hil's
love affair with Gibson guitars is no secret. Having first bought
a red Gibson 335 back in 1970 (because the shop had sold a Gibson
SG he had paid a deposit on) Phil has had Gibson guitars of various
shapes and sizes in his collection for over three decades.
The
tri-colour Firebird that Phil has been using on the Roxy tour
has been part of his guitar family for some 28 years. Ever since
it featured on the 'For Your Pleasure' cover this guitar has been
a Manzanera - and a fan's - favourite.
Resting at
home is the rather less high profile brown reverse Firebird that
sadly rarely sees the light of day. But who knows... one day,
perhaps.
But Phil has
also been long associated with the famous shape and sound of the
renowned Gibson Les Paul. On several Roxy tours, and at such events
as the Seville Guitar Festival in the early 90s, Phil was rarely
without a superb black and gold Les Paul.
This tour
has proved no exception and now, courtesy of the master craftsmen
at Gibson, Phil will also be seen on the tour playing the Manzanera
Gibson Les Paul Custom 'Iguana' - a specially built guitar, customised
with a mother of pearl Iguana inlay.
