Phil at Reading

Back to the Photo Archive Main Page Back
As you might expect, over the years, Phil has accumulated a fine collection of vintage guitars: Firebirds, Thunderbirds, Les Pauls, Telecasters, Stratocasters, Rickenbackers, Guilds, etc., etc..

His first electric guitar was, however, a red and black Hofner Galaxie (not a lot of people know that) a guitar that saw plenty of action during those halcyon psychedelic days back at Dulwich where Pooh and the Ostrich Feather were the main act in town (OK, the only act in town, but you get the picture).

Phil's first real guitar was a cherry red Gibson 335. This was a big, semi-acoustic similar to that sported by Jorma Kaukonen of Jefferson Airplane fame. Sadly, it wasn't the guitar Phil wanted or, indeed, the one he bought on HP from Macari's in Charing Cross Road. Having paid the deposit on a rather nice Gibson SG special he came back with his HP form duly filled in only to find that the kindly staff at the shop had sold his guitar to someone else.

Bastards.
