The Reading Festival performance was
the only Festival played by the band. Ironically, the original idea was to play
a series of festivals, mainly in France, but a riot at one in Orange gave
President Valery Giscard d'Estaing the excuse to cancel them all. Every could has a silver lining, however. Reduced to playing only three concerts, it was necessary to find a way to make financial sense of the project. So, the Island Mobile was booked, the last concert at the Queen Elizabeth Hall recorded - and 801 Live, one of the finest live albums ever, was made. Thank you, Mr President! |
