The 801 Live concerts were the last
time Phil and Eno played onstage together. A tragedy for modern music, given
the stunning quality of these performances and of the recorded work they did
together. "Working with Brian and Phil was always exciting," remembers Bill MacCormick. "You never knew what would happen next and, of course, if all else failed we knew what to do - consult the 'Oblique Strategies'. We might not agree on how to interpret the message chosen but it was always fascinating and usually threw up something that would spark a good creative thought. My favourite card, though, was 'Honour Thine Error as a Hidden Intention'. It was a great cover-all for any bum notes I played!" |
