801 Stage set-up

The little map on the left, written in Phil's fair hand, shows the stage set-up used for the three 801 live concerts.

From left to right:

Nos. 8, 9, 10 and 17 - Eno's synths, organs, guitar, tape machines, echo units and mike. The tape machines were used for loops heard on 'Tomorrow Never Knows' and 'Sombre Reptiles'.

Nos. 13 to 16 - Phil's enormous Yamaha 'space console' with rotating speakers (a la Leslie tone cabinet). The Yamaha amp in front of the drum rostrum was a small, twin 12" set-up. Apart from the various Gibson guitars Phil used, he also played a Yamaha guitar fed through a custom built pedal effects board. New into the market in the mid-70s, Yamaha needed a lead guitarist of stature to promote their new lines. Phil was their choice.

Nos. 1 to 5 - Simon Phillip's drums and the Roland rhythm box sent through a HiWatt amp. The drums were Pearl as I recall.

Nos. 6 and 18 - Bill MacCormick's small Fender bass amp, used for stage sound only. For PA purposes, his Fender Precision went straight to the sound desk. 18 was his vocal mike.

Nos. 11, 12 and 19 - Lloyd Watson played two Fenders, his own Strat and as very old Telecaster belonging to Phil. They were run through an old Vox AC30 and a Fender amp. Vocal mike 19.

No. 7 - Francis Monkman played a Fender Rhodes and a Clavinet, though what the amp was, Lord alone knows.
